Jeff Root comes up with an album of engaging, interesting, and fun rock and roll music almost yearly. The Pig In The Python CD is another offering from his fertile imagination. Root, from the Central Massachusetts area, has a sound unlike anyone else in the local music scene. His smooth, unique vocal timbre rides over his melody line with a self-restrained energy unlike anything heard before. His song ideas are over the top wholly original, never following the usual songwriting patterns. The Pig In The Python is a dynamite album due to Roots’ ability to remain wholly original. The man seems genetically incapable of following in the footsteps of others. And that’s a good thing.

“Slutty” Pete Zona has been hosting the Wantu Blues Jams at The Village Trestle in Goffstown, New Hampshire for over a decade now. Zona, who has the whole hosting, sound engineering thing down pat, is a much liked, well-respected presence in that venue and on the area blues scene. Each year, the Village Trestle shows its love for Zona by having him host his own annual birthday blues jam bash. This draws in talent from miles away, and it always results in at least five hours of fun and high quality music for the audience.

This guitarist combines his fantastic gifts to come up with something that is a lot of fun to listen to while it impresses with many fine touches and nuances. This album is the final in a trilogy that began with Guitaring and continued with Guitaresque. After listening to this current album, listeners will probably be hankering for those two recordings.

Opinion: NH music scene has a lot of growing up to do
Covering the New England music scene as a music journalist is one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences any writer and music fan could ever dream of. I could write endlessly about the talent in our six state region and all of the exiting bands I’ve seen in all of the special venues I’ve visited. Sadly, there is one New England state that hasn’t yet gotten the memo that the New England music scene is a scene of professional musicians and music industry professionals. That would be my beloved home state of New Hampshire.
