He’s not just a candy man. He’s also a blues man. Doug Nelson has announced some really cool shows that are coming to his Nelson’s Candies/Local’s Café in Wilton, New Hampshire this summer. If doing something different, like listening to blues in a candy store is your bag, then Nelson’s Candies/Local’s Café is the place for you. If names like Hakim Law, Willie J. Laws, Doctor Dann, and Skip Philbrick make your ears perk up, then now’s the time to pay careful attention.

The Hakim Law Trio will play on July 9th. The entire show is being billed as “Get On The A Train Red Line With Hakim Law Trio.”

The trio will feature New York City’s top jazz female recording artist Antoinette Perry. The evening will also give trio member Cleveland Nevelle Mal a chance to showcase his chops with his own Comb Francisco act. Mal places a piece of cellophane over a combo and plays it like a harmonica, hence the title Comb Francisco.

“He blows throw it and it sounds pretty cool,” Nelson said.

Willie J. Laws Band will play Local’s Café on Saturday, July 23rd. This will mark the third time Willie J. Laws Band will appear at Nelson’s Candies/Local’s Café. His tickets go fairly fast so inquire immediately if you would like to include Willie J. Law’s Band Wilton, New Hampshire show in your New Hampshire vacation plans. It could make a great start to a week of Granite State attractions, on your way to The Flume, Hobo’s Railroad, Lost River, Clark’s Trading Post, and or the Lake’s Region.

Doctor Dann And The Brothers Blues Band will hit Local’s Café on Saturday, August 27. The band will play their Chicago styles blues at Nelson’s, showcasing influences from Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, and Bukka White. Dr. Dann and the Brothers Blues Band have been living and loving the blues now for decades. According to their bio page:

“Influenced by the Chicago and Delta Blues the band brings an electric energy to any venue that they play. This hard working band is ready to whip the crowd into a blues frenzy.”

Skip Philbrick Band will play Local’s Café on September 10th. More on Skip Philbrick Band as this date approaches.
