Ease Into The Noise are onto something beautiful, edgy, and strange
Ease Into The Noise offers some eerie soundscapes, enticing melodies, and otherworldly vocals on their self-titled debut CD. The CD cover artwork only hints at the unusual artfulness of what this band has to offer. A drawing of a bejeweled, aristocratic lady observing the sky in a grassy filed is noted for all it does with a few basic colors. Likewise, Ease Into The Noise can do a lot with a little in this first outing that makes one wish this disc could be twice as long.
Erinn Brown Band explore fantastic possibilities with Ruled My Life album
This is a gem of a CD from a North Shore artist that BillCopelandMusicNews.com missed when it was released several months ago. Erinn Brown’s Rule My Life features the title track and 11 new arrangements of her own original songs she previous recorded on her earlier CDS. This collection of rearrangements is only fitting, as Brown, a musical genius in the tradition of Ray Charles, Glen Miller, and Count Basie, constantly tweaks her songs and her covers into something new and different every few months.

Goli carries original sound far on This Is Not A Love Song CD
After years of hard work and playing out, Goli has now released their first full length debut CD. This Is Not A Love Song is an excellent document of what midi marimba player Vessela Stoyanova and cellist Valerie Thompson can achieve with their imaginative uses of their instruments, instruments one does not too often find in rock and pop combos. Ten years is a lot of time for a combo to find their sound and perfect it. The two women started out as part of Boston’s progressive rock band Fluttr Effect before finding themselves playing and singing together within this tighter two woman combo. Stoyanova can dial in a lot of different keyboard sounds from her midi marimba and Thompson can play anything from traditional cello to rock and roll low end lines on her own instruments.

Daphne Lee Martin dropped her fourth CD late last year, and, while this New London, Connecticut artist incorporates more modern sounds amidst her vintage music landscape, she still pleases with her sensuous vocals and old time sounds. She applies more of a dreamy ambiance to some songs and an easeful flow to others. Yet, her sophistication remains in tact. Each song features a myriad of instrumentation that join together to create interesting and engaging soundscapes. Each can transport the listener to other times and places with plenty of drama and intrigue.

Matt York branches out on his with Boston, Texas CD; former Wide Iris front man has his own sound
Matt York’s new solo album Boston, Texas finds the former Wide Iris front man playing an eclectic mix of flinty roots-rock material. His vocal approach maintains a fine balance between warmth and seriousness. While the personality behind his songs is open and inviting, he also reflects a seriousness about his topics that give each number substance. Though York is playing in another musical territory than his old indie punk band, he’s still young at heart and still values the importance of a good song and a riff that pulls you into it.
