Monkeys With Hammers is a formidable power rock cover trio. Consisting of guitarist-vocalist Chris Lester, bassist-vocalist Rich Knox, and drummer Eric Wagley, MWH played to an enthusiastic audience at Whippersnappers in Londonderry, New Hampshire last night. It didn’t take long to realize this trio has stage chemistry and camaraderie. They’re having so much fun playing together that they make it look easy to do what they do, even though some of their material is quite challenging.
Downtown Dave And The Deep Pockets blues up Boondocks
They come into a town to show people what real blues is all about. Downtown Dave And The Deep Pockets came to Boondocks Tavern & Country Grill last Saturday night. What a show it was at the Weare, New Hampshire venue. Fronted by singer-harmonica player Dave Glannon, the Deep Pockets featured their former guitarist Jimmy Kokolis filling in for Mike Revela and bassist Mickey Maguire filling in for Joe Zangri. Even with substitute players, there was no holding back the blues power that this quartet could muster. They whipped up the kind of blues that people will travel miles to hear.
Chick Singer Night concert showcased power of women vocalists
It’s easy to get excited about some certain events. Chick Singer Night at the Regent Theatre in Arlington, Massachusetts last Saturday evening was a successful concert, wowing the audience with some of Boston’s most winsome singers. Not only did each lady vocalist have the kind of impressive pipes that make you sit up and take notice, each did so in her own unique style, offering the crowd as much variety as quality.
Brooks Hubbard shined in an outdoors set at Boondocks in Weare, New Hampshire
There’s nothing like a solo acoustic artist who can keep his magic going nonstop. Last night, Brooks Hubbard played, as usual, a four hour set without a break at Boondocks Tavern & Country Grill in Weare, New Hampshire. Hubbard’s more emotional songs drew a strong response from those in attendance, naturally. Since Hubbard has a special quality in everything he does which indicates he could be going places. As the weather was perfect, Hubbard got to play outdoors, just beyond the Boondock’s front porch.
5th Annual Bob Dylan Birthday Bash was a roaring success
The Fifth Annual Bob Dylan Birthday Bash went off without hardly a hitch, and it was an evening of exciting entertainment, for all on stage and in attendance. Organized by the energetic front man from Napoleon In Rags, Bobby Livingston, the fundraiser benefited the Brad Delp Foundation. Created by family members of the late lead vocalist from the band Boston, the Foundation raises money for school music programs.

Facedown made yet another appearance at Boondocks Tavern & Country Grill in Weare, New Hampshire last night. It was clear why this unique cover band has been picking up a bunch of rooms in a hurry in southern New Hampshire. Lead vocalist Nikki Guidoboni has a very likable and very watchable stage presence. She also has a good handle on how to give each song what it needs to go over well with people who’ve been hearing them for years. The four musicians behind her were also top notch at putting across the music people having been dancing to and singing along to in their car radios.

Peter Ward And The Electric Blues played Smoken’ Joe’s BBQ & Blues for the first time last night, and they proved they’re the right kind of band for the venue. Bringing in their own crowd and keeping the regulars tuned in, Ward and his band mates played good, old fashioned blues, classics, and some overlooked nuggets. The Brighton blues venue was the perfect home for this outfit.
URO has fun with Band In Boston concert, celebrates 10th year, raises money for One Fund
The Ultrasonic Rock Orchestra’s third and final 10th anniversary concert Band In Boston proved to be as much fun as all of their presentations. Last night’s performance, two nights before the Boston Marathon, raised some proceeds for the One Fund while celebrating the music of Hub acts Aerosmith, The Cars, and Boston.
Deja Voodoo rock Boondocks Tavern, help say goodbye to a special friend
Deja Voodoo came to Weare, New Hampshire last night and played their special blend of 90s rock, power trio style. There is nothing like three tight players pumping out an endless salvo of driving music. This Manchester-based trio kept their sound compact, accessible, and chunky. Even when they slowed things down a bit, you could still feel their electrical charge. Their performance marked the final evening of farewell celebrations for owner MaryEllen Robinson-Montplaisir who is relocating to Maine to complete her dream of living in her childhood hometown.
