Tomorrow night, October 17, Boston-based singer-songwriter-harmonica player Cheryl Arena, will be the latest blues act featured at Nelson Candies. Arena will treat New Hampshire and New England blues fans to the kind of steamy, exciting blues she’s been know for these last few decades. Local blues fans would know Cheryl Arena from her gigs at Rynborn in Antrim, New Hampshire several years ago.

Located on Main Street in Wilton, New Hampshire, Nelson’s Candies owns a side room owner Doug Nelson calls Local’s Café. The café is a 50 seat auditorium with a fairly sizable stage in front. The walls are appropriately decorated with guitars and music posters. Local’s Café opened in 2002 as Doug Nelson’s brainchild as an open mic and jam. Coming from a musical family is what inspired Doug Nelson to create his music venue. He also brings in fans of the old Rynborn as well as blues fans who follow New Hampshire’s Wantu Blues Jams at The Village Trestle in Goffstown as well as the blues jam at The Strange Brew Tavern in Manchester

He brings some of New England’s best acts to his Local’s Café almost every month. Cheryl Arena will be there with a band this Saturday night.

“I have a great band, Peter Henderson on guitar, Forrest Padgett on drums, and Brad Hallen on bass,” Arena said. Arena was named Most Outstanding Harmonica Player in the 2013 Blues Audience Newsletter pool. She formerly played in Kat In The Hat and the Woodburn-Arena Blues Band. She has also spent time playing in the Texas blues scene.

Tickets are $20 and can be reserved in advance by calling 603-654-5030.
